#LoveWins & Celebrating LGBTQ in YA Literature

HISTORY was made yesterday when all 50 US states legalized gay marriage, and I am beyond ecstatic that I was alive to witness it. I am a firm believer that love will always win in the end. It is a force to be reckoned with. Humans, no matter their sexuality, ethnicity, religion, or gender, all deserve equal rights. In the end, we are all the same. We shouldn't judge people based on their differences, we should instead be celebrating how wonderfully diverse our planet is.

Now on to the bookish aspect of this post...

There are fantastic LGBTQ characters in YA literature and they should be celebrated. I love that authors include diverse characters into their stories, because someday someone might read their novel and feel likes it's okay to be who they are. That they don't need to be ashamed of who they love. My hope is that more authors will write about LGBTQ characters and not just as side characters, but as the protagonists in their own stories. Love is love is love, and it should be celebrated in all it's glory.

I'd have to say that so far, in the books I have read, my favorite LGBTQ characters are.....

(SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T READ ALL THE BOOKS IN THE PICTURE)

1. Ronan from The Raven Cycle Quartet (I absolutely adore him)
2. Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices
3. Dumbledore from Harry Potter
4. Nico from Percy Jackson and the Olympians/The Heroes of Olympus
5. Noah from I'll Give You the Sun

I absolutely love all of these characters! I definitely want to read more books with such diverse characters, if you've read one and want to recommend, please leave a comment on this post so I can check it out and possibly read it!

Stay Weird.
Stay Bookish.

Love,
Alli
